How to Copy Protected DVD Movies

Hello and welcome to my simple guide on how to copy your Protected DVD movies easily, for your backing up pleasure.

This guide can be used for any DVD Movie Disc, Copy Protected or Not.

So the programs you need are, AnyDVD & Shrink DVD.

Install both those programs, and then start up AnyDVD if its not already.

The only setting you will only need to edit is the "Region" settings make sure it’s set to the correct one for your country.

Now insert your DVD Movie Disc that you want to copy. If you want you can check AnyDVD to see what it’s Copy Protection is, if any.

Now Start up DVDShrink. Click on Open Disc.

Select your DVD Movie, and click on Ok.

Now when its decrypting it should say “Not Encrypted” if it says something else then AnyDVD is not running, go back and turn it on and try again.

Now after that has done click on Re-Author, select the Movie & drag it over the DVD area.

Now after you have done that click on “Compression Settings” and only select what language and subtitles you want. Try and get the compression above 70%. You can do this by only selecting a few thing. [THE LANGUAGE YOU WANT THE MOVIE TO BE IN MUST BE SELECTED!]

Now click on Back up.

After that click on DVD Region and select “Region Free”

Now go back to "Target Device" and make sure your settings match mine and make sure you select a suitable folder & click on Ok.

After you have done that and it’s completed, you just need to burn the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders to a DVD-R or DVD+R using any normal burning program.

With the explosive popularity of movie downloading, some users on movie posting forums are using shady tactics to increase their exposure.

When movies are released, they follow certain naming conventions. These are all standard, and you will never see a proper movie released with the following in the title: *HIGH QUALITY* / *BEST QUALITY*

High quality movies or High Definition movies are always released on Bluray.

Some Scene Groups may use the terminology *HQ* (.x264) when releasing a movie. This is the ONLY instance the HD terminology can be used.

It should not be used for any other reason, or release type.

Similarly R5 releases are (known as DVDRIP'S) are also being mislabelled to gain more exposure by their uploaders.

Additionally, these mislabelled movies are also being falsely represented with fake screen shots. The screen shots are higher quality than the actual movies are. The best advice, read the comments and the original poster's post count to verify they are a consistent poster.

Click OK and wait while the decompression process completes. An error message will come appear, cancel that error message.

Downloading movies requires first that you download the message headers to see what is available. A newsreader is required for this, which are available free.

Unfortunately, downloading headers can take quite a lot of time considering there are hundreds of thousands of them. These headers are where the movies are, however a single movie may comprise thousands of headers, each with a small piece of the movies files attached. One would then need to download all the headers and attachments before the movies could be assembled, and ultimately viewed. Fortunately, things have changed with the times - for the better.

In the past few years, newsgroup provider newzbin.com devised a file format called a NZB file. The nzb file is a simple way to index a particular group of headers into a single downloadable file. The nzb file points the newsreader to the exact location of the files to download, and enables you to queue them for download.

Newsgroup downloading works like this:

nzb movie file > rar (archive) files > movie file (avi, mpg, mp4 etc.) > view the movie

Essentially, the entire movie is now condensed into a single nzb file. Once the nzb file is downloaded, you can simply recombine the movie files within the the attachments, and watch the movie.

Again we have a simplified method, thanks to modern technology. The advent of nzb movie streaming allows us to watch a movie before it has been completely downloaded.

The process of nzb movie streaming:
nzb movie file > rar (archive) files > open 1st rar archive > view movie

As you can see from the process above, a complete step has been removed which itself can take hours. In the end, you still have the original movie file on your computer - unlike regular movie streaming services (which you have to pay for)

Rapidshare itself allows users to share 100Mb files with whomever they desire. A typical movie may be 700Mb split into 7 pieces of 100Mb each (this is done with a program called winrar)

The split movie is uploaded to rapidshare in pieces and each of th epieces is given a http:// link. These files are then shared through social networks, forums, and websites and similar locations for public download. Normally, to watch the movie, one would have to download the individual files and ten reassemble them back into one large movie file, which then could be viewed.

With the advent of usenet nzb files to download movies from newsgroups, we can now adapt this technology for use on file sharing networks like rapidshare.

The process is quite simple and is as follows:

1) Search for a movie to download (try nzbseek.com) or from a warez forum.
The movie links will be in the form of several rapidshare http:// links.
2) Copy these links into notepad, or a word processor for later use
3) Use a rapidshare link checker (try http://linkwatcher.org) to make sure the links are all valid.
In many occurrences, copyrighted movies may be flagged and removed from the rapidshare servers. If this happens, simply return to your search and find another copy of the movie to download.
4) Download and install a nzb player (try nzbplayer.com, or bintube)
5) Download the first movie file in the rar set from rapidshare (.rar, then r01, r02, r03 etc)
6) Open the nzb player and load the rar file you just downloaded. The movie will start to play. Once the movie is finished, you will have a copy of it in the folder you saved the rar files to.

The concept itself is a great way to save time and start watching movies right away, instead of waiting to download all the rar files, and then watch the movie. By the way, this also works for music and TV shows as well.

There are a few methods to watch and download movies before they are released. Of these methods, the best is the Theatrical Screener (TS) which is a pre-release DVD version made available to select individuals for their private use. Although getting your name on the list for access to TS copies is unknown to me, there is a benefit to those on the list that make these TS copies of movies available to everyone else. We the public can download these versions from torrent sites, newsgroups, and warez sites.

The next method is similar to TS, but are called WorkPrints - which are incomplete versions of movies. These movies typically have stock footage placeholders for special effects to be added later, incomplete audio portions, and other rough video and audio awaiting editing and mixing. For the most part these movies are cxompletely watchable. The most popular workprint this year is the X-Men Origins: Wolverine workprint that was leaked earlier this year. The movie was complete other than some special effects. This honestly just make you want to see the completed movie in the theatre.

Another method to download or watch movies before they are released in theaters, is to watch foreign versions of movies (CAM versions - shot with a camcorder) that are released earlier to different markets around the world. It is quite common to see Russian or Japanese versions of movies a few days ahead of English version release. The drawback is the audio may be in a different language, however you can get english subtitles. Most foreign movies some with english subtitles included.

The question remains, where do you find these versions of movies to download?
The simplest suggestion is to download them from the newsgroups, such as from useNeXt via highspeed download before you download movies though, you may want to learn exactly what is available. Downloading Movies is obviously not as straightforward as the title leads one to believe. Obviously one cannot download a movie without paying for a rental or by purchasing a copy from an online store or service. There are many alternatives as pointed out in a previous article here.

(If you prefer to use a premiere service, you might try Graboid, with over 150,000 movies and TV Shows)

Most of us use alternatives like torrent sites, ftp sites and Peer to peer sites, however most of the time these methods end up only disappointing us due to slow downloads, or inaccurate file names, or incomplete files. Not to mention the potential of downloading a virus or some other sort of badware (learn about BadWare here) Although there really is no 100% reliable way to download full length theatrical movies - this is referred to as 'pirating' by the way - some of the following methods to offer better than normal results.

Filesharing Sites - Of the more common methods to download movies, games, music and software are the file sharing sites like rapidshare and megaupload. The reason these sites are so popular is because of the file sizes and download limits. Rapidshare allows 100Mb file sizes and several Gb of downloads per day. If you purchase a premium account, these limits are raised. This means entire movies can be downloaded in one session. How To Convert Movies To DVD

This tutorial is for ConvertXtoDVD v3.x - which can be downloaded here

First, download convertxtodvd. Next, edit the settings to match these below, once you familiarize yourself with the program, you can change these settings to your own preferences.

After you have installed converxtodvd, edit the settings, (Settings\General)

Next, select the chapters repeat time, (example, every 3 minutes)

Here you must select the correct region (Country) for the DVD to playback. (NTSC, or PAL)

The bottom of these options tabs will tell you what region codes each country uses.

Next, select the priority the program should receive (how important is this program to you to finish creating a dvd quickly, in relation to other programs you are running right now)

For the burning speed select a value between 2x and 8x, the slower the better. Try to purchase DVD-R or DVD+R discs, the best brands are Verbatim.

So now onto the actual conversion process; after the settings have been changed, you are ready to go start converting your movies into DVD's.

Always try to start the program with a blank cd or dvd in the drive - prior to launching the program, it saves time and prepares the system for burning with the supported options alreadt available to you. You may notice that without a cd or a dvd in the drive, some options appear to be unavailable. This simply means that the program does not know what type of cd or dvd you have selected and what it may support. All cd and dvd's are not the same and have different limitations.

Click Add Video File to select your movie file.

For starters, these file formats are methods used to store cd and dvd rom information. They are commonly employed to make exact copies of cd's and dvd's.

The .BIN, .CUE and .ISO CD\DVD image format was popularized by the CDRWin software. At this time, these image formats were not fully supported. (it should be noted that the term "image" does not refer to a picture of something, or a photograph, but is used as a term to describe an exact copy of a cd or a dvd. This is often called a CD image or DVD image.)

Nowadays almost all CD and DVD writing programs fully support .ISO, .BIN, and .CUE image file formats, including: Nero, BlindWrite, CloneCD, FireBurner. The .CUE file contains the track layout information, while the .BIN file contains the actual image data.

.ISO is also a CD DVD image format, but is sometimes used for 'ISO9660 format' (the industry standard, recognized by all applications) and often used for a program called Easy CD, and their Easy CD ISO format.

Only Hear Audio and No Video?

This is typical of many movie formats for computers. The problem is a missing codec (decoder).
The solution is easier than you may think. Most people use their default media player - Windows Media Player which does the job most of the time. The problem is that there are so many video and audio formats that each requires a different audio and video decoder.

Fortunately, there are groups of audio and video file formats that can be grouped such as AVI, MPG, MOV, and MP4 to name a few. The problem once again is the many variances of AVI, MPG and other movie formats. each of these have their own codecs as well. Windows Media Player by default attempts to search and download missing codecs but given the fact there are so many, it almost always fails to locate the proper codec.

The best solution is to download a media player, such as VLC Media Player - which contains the codecs within. Or, as another option, download a media converter such as ConvertXtoDVD.

Conversely, if you only see video and have no audio, chances are you need an audio AC3 codec. This will enable audio playback of MP3 and many other popular audio formats.

Movie Torrents are Dead, Try Oldschool!

Torrents WERE a pretty good method of downloading the latest movies but now they are virtually dead. ISP's are traffic shaping and bandwidth limiting their users. The Movie industry are suing everyone from the pirate bay to grandmothers and babies. The torrent craze is slowly being stomped out.

There are alternatives though! As with everything on the internet, take something away and something new will be created to replace it. or in this case, something old will shine through!

File sharing sites like rapidshare, and megaupload are very popular because they are faster to download from, they do not reply upon a particular user being online, or a slow user sharing files (as with Peer to Peer networks) nor do they have any limits on traffic shaping and bandwidth limiting (yet) Give it time, and the ISP's will start limiting the popular file sharing networks and websites as well.

Oldschool methods are proven and are still around. The newsgroups, or 'usenet' is just about as old as you can get in relation to internet terms. usenet is ovedr 30 years old, yet has hardly seen any of the popularity that P2P, and torrents have. Usenet is a public system based around messages and topics. Anyone can read, create or reply to a topic ot create a thread. Similar to email threads, newsgroups allow attachments to be added to a topic, reply or a thread. Best yet, these attachments can be entire movies!

The myth about newsgroups is that they are difficult to understand, and that they contain questionable content. Both myths are not entirely true. newsgroups are public, so one could find a newsgroup on just about anything - same as the internet, so this is nothing new. You simply must use caution. secondly, newsgroups being difficult - how easy was it for you to install a torrent client? Did you understand NAT, and firewalls? Eventually, you managed to figure it out though. Well newsgroups are simpler to use than torrents.

Just as torrent sirtes use torrent files, newsgroups use NZB files (newzbin files) NZB files were the invention of newzbin to make downloading from newsgroups easier.

To start using newsgroups:
1) download any usenet client (or newsgroup reader)
2) connect to a newsgroup server ( try this free servers list) Or use this free usenet trial subscription link
3) search for a movie usign a nzb site - www.nzbseek.com or binsearch.info
4) download the nzb file for the movie you searched for
5) open the nzb file with your newsreader and start downloading it
6) extract the files you downloaded (similar to torrents files)
7) burn the movie to dvd using a dvd burning software.

Learn to Download NZB Files

This tutorial will quickly explain how to download NZB files.

Step 1 - Download and Install a NZB Client Software

You will need to have an NZB file at hand. So, if you don't have one, links on this website. I commend .

Step 2 - Find NZB Files

You can find NZB files to download with an NZB Indexing site such as nzbseek.com. Most of these sites are free, or charge a very small fee. NZB files are plain text files, so they can be used with any kind of computer. Regardless if you are on a Mac or a PC, you don't need to find special NZB files, or a special NZB site.

Step 3 - Find Usenet Newsgroup Server Info

NZB files contain a list of pointers to files that reside on Usenet, one of the the oldest systems of the internet. All that NZB programs require are that you enter information for at least one Usenet "newsgroup" server. These servers can be accessed by any kind of computer, and the information below is identical no matter what kind of computer you are using.

Just about all ISP's offer a free newsgroup server that you can use. Some are not very well managed though. You should consider purchasing a usenet subscription. Nevertheless, your ISP likely gave you usenet information when you signed up. Look in your sign-up information, or contact your ISP to find out your newsgroup server' settings.

The following is the information you require:

1. The news server URL - Example: news.techsono-news.com
2. Your username/password
3. Port Number (nntp port) - which is almost always 119
4. Number of simultaneous connections permitted - More connections equals faster downloads. Nesgroup readers support multiple connections, which allow a single file to be downloaded in many smaller pieces.

While you are talking to your ISP, ask them about monthly data limits, and if there is a speed limit on the server. If there are strict limitations, don't worry about this for now.

Once you have learned the basics, you can use the information in Step 9 to find a better newsgroup server.

Step 4 - Using PAR files

NZB files will usually contain PAR (parity) files. This is because Usenet does not have automatic error-correction protocols. The PAR files contain error-correction information and are used to check, when required, repair the files you have downloaded.

Step 5 - Handle RAR files

NZB files contain links to RAR files. RAR is popular because it is a very good compression method. This enables large downloads to be compressed to save time and bandwidth when downloadign them. In most cases, the PAR files from Step 4 are used to check/repair the RAR files.

RAR archives come in sets of files. Essentially, large files are broken up into smaller parts, and stored in dozens of RAR files. So, once you have finished downloading the NZB file's contents, you will have a folder full of PAR and RAR files.

Once you have extracted the files contained within the RAR, you can delete way the PARs and RARs. Keeping in mind that if you are working on such a "segmented" RAR archive, you need to obtain all the segments before you can extract the files within. If you are missing one or two segments, you can usually have the PAR files recreate them, but in general, you want to make sure to collect all the segments.

If you use a SVF file first, that will check that all the RAR files are present and are valid and free of corruption. PAR files are not even required at this point.

Most newsgroup readers have automatic unRARing built in, and contain RAR decoders that you can use on RAR files that you find by other means. Both programs make the entire PAR-and-RAR process very easy.

Step 6 - Download Codecs to Play NZB Movie and Audio Files

At a minimum, you will want to install the DIVX video codec, and the AC3 audio codec. If you only get audio when playing a movie file, that signifies that you don't have the right video codec installed. If you play an audio or video file, and can fdo not have audio, then that means you don't have the right audio codec installed.

Step 7 - Working with RAR Archives

A RAR archive may contain any sort of file types. Sometimes you will get a simple file such as an MPEG that you can just double-click on to play. Other times, you will get files that you have never heard of before. Your computer will prompt you to select a program to open any unknown file types.

This may seem very confusing and elaborate, but there are a limited number of variations, and it doesn't really take that long to learn them all.

Step 8 - Burn Large Files to CD or DVD

Some of the files you find inside a RAR will be incompatible on your computer. They will have to be burned to a CD or DVD first. This also includes movie formats from other countries. You will need a program to burn cd's and dvd such as ConvertXtoDVD.

Step 9 - Subscribe to a Premium Newsgroup Server

Many ISP's do not offer free Usenet newsgroup servers any longer, and if they do, most put speed and/or download limits on their free servers. NZB downloading requires simultaneous connections, and most ISP's only allow a small number of simultaneous connections to their server.

If you are not satisfied with what your ISP offers, you can sign up with a "third party" news-service-provider or "Newsgroup Service". You connect to your Newsgroup server via your existing internet connection, and you use the information supplied by your NSP in your NZB client software.

Step 10 - Deal With the Limitations of the NZB Method

If you are fanatical about acquiring certain types of files, you won't want to rely upon the NZB method exclusively. You will want to plunge directly into Usenet itself. This may happen if you are missing rar files and there are also missing par files.

These movies are called "cam" or handycam recordings of movies. They are exactly what they sound like. Someone actually brings a small camcorder to a movie and records the movie.

The quality is often lacking in sound and picture quality, however if you want to see the latest and greatest releases in the theaters, this is the most common and easily downloaded option.

Another is the "TS" version of a movie, which is a theater screener version. These are not as common because they are more easilty tracked to a certain individual that may have leaked the movie. If someone were to make a copy and distribute in on the interne,t they would be revealing themselves as the person responsible for leaking the movie.

There are dozens of movie file types and within those are dozens of differences. Each movie format is different in how they are encoded (created) and how they are decoded (viewed)
The AVI (Audio Video Interleave) format itself has dozens of variations which are not all compatible with standard AVI codecs.

Many of these movie formats require special software decoders (codecs) to be ble to view them and unfortunately, getting these codecs is often a manual process. First you have to locate the proper codec, then download it and finally install it to your operating system.

Often, identifying the need for a missing codec is as simple as opening a video file to a black screen with audio only. The solution is to download the missing codec. Finding out what codec is required is the problem. Fortunately, there is a program called G-spot which is a codec identifier.
This program will tell you the codec used to create the movie. Windows media Player has the ability to automatically download the required codecs, but it does not always work, ultimately requiring a manual download of the codec.

There are many different video players, each with their own propreitary codecs. The most common are Windows media, Quicktime (MOV files) and Real Player (RAM and RMVB formats) Each are designed to be direct competitors with each other, each offering limited support to play other file formats. The best solution is to install several video players, however there are some lesser known competitors that do a great job of playing all formats.

What is a RAR File?

A RAR file is the native format of WinRAR archiver. Like other archives files types, RAR files are data containers, which are used to store one or several files in a compressed form. After downloading a RAR file from Internet, it needs to be unpacked in order to use it.

WinRAR is used to create and unpack RAR files. If WinRAR is installed on your computer and you have downloaded RAR files from Internet, double clicking on a RAR file icon will invoke WinRAR.

Once WinRAR is opened, select all files and press the "Extract To" button, then enter a destination path and press "OK".

A quicker method is to right mouse click on the RAR file in Windows Explorer. During the instalation of WinRAR, if you enabled the "Shell integration" option, the file context menu will contain the option "Extract to" or "Extract here"

Some RAR files can be parts of multi-volume sequences. In WinRAR you can split a huge archive into several smaller files, which are called volumes. WinRAR volumes have file extensions of .rar (the first volume), .r00, .r01, ..., or .part1.rar (the first volume), .part2.rar, ..., etc. If you need to unpack volumes, simply place all of the volume files in the same folder and start extraction from the first volume.

Comparing WinRAR to WinZIP

Comparing the most common archive format called a ZIP file, RAR provides a number of advanced features: more convenient multipart (multi-volume) archives, tighter compression including special multimedia and text modes, strong AES-128 encryption, recovery records to repair an archive even in case of physical data damage, Unicode support to process non-English file names.

What is a PAR File?

A PAR file is a Parchive Archive file (or commonly called a 'par' file). The purpose of a par file is to create redundant data that can be utilized in case portions of the original data is lost or corrupted - which happens quite frequently. Par files allow file level recovery of data. Briefly, in a group of many archive files, if a few files are lost, incomplete, or corrupted, they can be recovered using a par file. Par files will the extension of .par, .p01, .p02 ans so on.

A PAR2 file is a parity file created with a program called QuickPar. To verify or repair data files, you would open QuickPar by double clicking on the par2 file, or using Windows Explorer, launch QuickPar and click "Open" for the par2 file for the archive you are repairing.

QuickPar will immediately start analyzing the PAR2 files in the archive and also verify the files that the par2 parity archive protects. To download Quickpar, visit the quickpar website link.

In the image above, notice that all of the data files are complete and that the PAR2 files contain the correct number of recovery blocks.

At this point you may Click "Clear" and then "Open" to open another PAR2 file, or click "New" to create new PAR2 files, or click "Exit" to exit from QuickPar.

Repairing damaged archive files

If the data files are damaged, missing, or incomplete, QuickPar will display the following:

The information displayed in the above image illustrates that 33 of the 35 files are damaged and that the repair will require 96 blocks of recovery data.

At this point you can either have QuickPar load additional PAR2 files (to provide more recovery blocks); or you may scan additional data files (to see if they contain some of the data from the original files). To do this click the "Add" button and select the additional files.

Another nice feature is the ability to monitor active downloads and QuickPar will automatically scan new files as soon as they are downloaded to your computer (e.g. if you need to obtain more files from UseNet). If all files are present and intact, QuickPar will advise the rewpair is not needed.

The image below illustrates the results after some PAR2 files have been downloaded and opened:

You will see that two PAR2 files have been obtained with a combined total of 113 recovery blocks and the QuickPar now indicates that a repair is possible (using 96 of the available recovery blocks). You may then click the "Repair" button to start the repair.

Once the repair has been started, all of the damaged files will be renamed (with a ".1" file extension). Once the repair process has completed, QuickPar will automatically verify the repaired files:

Additionally, you may choose both "monitor" and "repair automatically" settings in the advanced panel of QuickPar to mnage these tasks for you. Once Quickpar has completed the repair process, you may then extract the original data from the archive.

Bintube will download the remaining parts (winrar files) and start playing the streaming movies once you have dowwnloaded only the first rar file. The remaining rar files will continue to be downloaded in the background while you are watching the movie. Once the movie download is completed, the movie is stored on your hard drive for watching anytime.

NZB files do not stop only at movies, you can also download streaming tv shows as well. If you would like games, or applications, you can also download them using nzb files, however you obviously cannot stream them. This then will require a newsgroup reader program that will download the rar files and then decompress them to their original state. This is ually an iso image which you can burn to a dvd or cd.

What is a NZB Movie File?

An NZB movie is not really an accurate term, however it has come be the definition of a file type that is used to download movies from the internet. An NZB movie file is actually a small index file used to direct you to the exact location of movies files stored in newsgroup nzb usenet categories.

In the simplest terms, A NZB movie is a file that you use to download movies from usenet newsgroups.
Movies are stored on newsgroup servers in small pieces just like email attachments and need to be downloaded to your computer to be able to watch them. Once you start downloading the parts of the movie file, you can use a NZB movie streaming program to start watching the movie, or you can wait until all the pieces of the movie have downloaded and then burn the movie to a dvd.

Just to clarify, Usenet is a vast collection of public newsgroups where people can read and post messages. The messages on usenet are part of what are called newsgroups. Newsgroups contains thousands of categories split into topics such as music, dvd ntsc movies, hd movies, religion, science, computers, pictures, games, ebooks justr to name a few.
