How To Watch Rar Files


 

First and foremost, a .rar file is not a movie file format. You cannot natively play them without some additional software. As outlined in this article, a RAR file is a compressed file, like a zip file. You must first extract the archive file contents to be able to use them.

RAR File Sets

RAR video archive files are split among many smaller RAR files. If you have all the parts of the archive, then you can play the movie.If you do not, you can run into problems. What has to happen then is to view the individual parts of the movie via each rar file. This can be useful for previewing the movie to see if you like the quality, or if it's even worth downloading the rest of the files.

To View a Partial Rar Movie File Archive:

1. Locate the first of the .rar files in the set.This may be extensions such as .rar, r01, r02 etc.
   
2. Right-click the rar file and choose "Extract" A dialog box will appear, check the box "Keep broken files"
3. Click OK and wait while the decompression process completes. An error message will come appear, cancel that error message.
4. Browse to the extracted file location to see the video files. Windows Media Player does not support broken file playback, but VLC media player does in most cases. Download VLC:  http://www.videolan.org
